The Adventures of Elder Pitt

And it's over! (Week 92)

Sep. 29, 2009

Aloha all,
Well I went down swinging, and had a pretty good finish. From Monday to Friday we had another elder with us who has a birth defect that causes him to limp. Despite being kind of slow he was a joy to have around. Despite moving kind of slow for most of the week we still managed to have one of the best weeks of this transfer. It’s weird to think it’s all over. I don’t think it will really set in until I’m back in America.

Not much to say… it’s been fun.

Sept 8-14 (Week 91)

Sep. 14, 2009

Aloha all,
Well it’s the final count down I’m working hard and everything has been going ok. I got to baptize one of my investigators for the first time which was cool. My companion is amazing. I’m very blessed to be serving with such a great missionary. It’s nice to have someone who supports you in doing what you need to, instead of shying away because it might be hard or uncomfortable.

Not much to write today

September 1-7 (Week 90)

Sep. 7, 2009

Aloha Family and Friends,
The time is flying faster that I like it It’s hard to believe I only have a few weeks left. I’ve been trying my hardest and work is starting to pick up. Though I’m pretty sure it’s got nothing to do with me but rather because my companion is an amazing missionary. I’m lucky to be finishing my mission with such a wonderful companion.

In other news I’ll get to baptize an investigator that I’ve been teaching for the last 2 months this next Friday. His name is Ganbold and he’s a really sweet guy. I’m pretty sure this is the first baptism I’m seeing from start to finish. It’s also going to be my last baptism so it’s pretty cool.

I’ve been trying my best to keep my head in the game and not give up before it’s over, but this last week was really tough seeing that I had a pretty nasty head cold. However I managed to survive by taking a few little naps here and there before long stretches of work. I was proud of myself because I really felt like I should have just said the heck with it and slept all day instead. I’m pretty much over it now so it should be smooth sailing from now to the end.

I think that’s it’s for now

August 25-31 (Week 89)

Aug. 31, 2009

Aloha family and friends

Well another week down. Time is flying much too fast. I hardly remember what I did this last week. Doing everything I can to be as obedient as possible and work as hard as I can with the time I have left. It’s weird to think it’s almost over. This last little bit I’ve been trying to finish up all the homework president Andersen gave me. I just finished the letter to my future self with all my promises to my self and my testimony. Now I’m working on writing a letter to my future family chronicling my entire mission. According to President Andersen if it isn’t around 10 pages I didn’t do it right. I’m on page 4 write now and am writing about coming to the country. It is all so fresh in my memory it hardly seems like two years ago.

Anyways, I can’t think of what else to write, so that’s it for this week. See you all soon

August 18-24 (Week 88)

Aug. 24, 2009

Aloha Family and Friends,

Well it’s been two weeks since I last wrote. Despite that I can think of very little to actually write. The transfer happened. I have an incredible new companion, Elder Batbaatar and we’re off to a really good start. It is nice having a companion you feel like you can depend on, it makes doing the work that much easier, and more enjoyable. It’s weird being so close to the end it almost doesn’t seem real. Every time I think about going back to America it just seems like a big joke. Luckily I have more than enough things to worry about that I don’t have much time to think about the after life. I wrote myself a big list of goals to accomplish before the end and I’ve started on checking them off. Some of them are silly like getting a suit made, and buying 3 dollar fedoras (hats) while others take a more serious note like fulfilling the homework President Andersen gave me to write a letter to my future family, and finishing the Book of Mormon in Mongolian.

The work is still a little slow, but I feel like I’m accomplishing a lot more with my new companion. Hopefully we’ll be able to get the work moving a little faster before I go. Lately we’ve been meeting with a young man named Ganbold, and he should be getting baptized here pretty soon. On a side note this last week I had the opportunity to baptize one of the sisters investigators who used to sit in my English classes at the church like almost a year ago. She had been attending church English classes for almost 2 years and it wasn’t until just recently that she decided to allow the missionaries to meet with her. It just goes to prove that everything comes to pass in its own time. It gives me hope for the returned missionary’s father we have been meeting with lately.

On the other hand I’m not too sure about the shamanist gentleman we taught this last week. He was a little scraggly guy with a  big smile that shown from beneath his big wiry beard and long almost dreaded hair. He invited us into his house, which more like some kind of shrine than living quarters, and listened to us intently while trying to draw parallels between Mongolian shamanism and Christianity. He was surprisingly friendly and receptive and for most of lesson he actually seemed like he could become a promising. However at the end we asked if before we left if we could pray at which point his cheery disposition immediately faded and he got really weird and told us that it wasn’t allowed in his house. He almost seemed to be afraid of something.

Anyways, that’s all for this week.
